Under pinned by heat-generating breath thermo yarn (shared from GolfPunk)

Mizuno’s AW18 apparel collection is the brand’s most comprehensive ever in the UK and Europe, with the colourful and stylish range drawing heavily on Mizuno’s heat-generating Breath Thermo yarn – along with Tech Shield and Move Tech technologies – for ultimate performance.

Mizuno, founded in Osaka, Japan, in 1906, has long held an enviable reputation not only for its golf clubs and forged irons, but also for some of golf’s most technologically advanced performance apparel. Actually, performance apparel is now Mizuno’s most prolific global product category by revenue.

For its AW18 apparel collection, Mizuno has carefully selected key pieces from its full domestic Japanese line-up to bring maximum performance benefits to the specific movements of the golf swing and meet the rigorous demands of off-season playing conditions. Mizuno’s high-performance, heat-generating Breath Thermo yarn – originally developed by Mizuno’s fabric engineers for extreme winter sports – again lies at the heart of this latest collection. “We initially developed Breath Thermo for extreme winter sports, where thinner, less restrictive clothing was a huge advantage,” said Kate Whitmore, Golf EMEA Product Division. “Breath Thermo has a unique ability to generate new heat from traces of escaping body vapour rather than to purely insulate.”

Three new Breath Thermo garments form the ideal base layers for those golfing days when layering holds the key to comfort and efficient temperature regulation. The Breath Thermo BioGear Base Layer and BioGear Leggings are soft, warm, stretchable base layers that boast a compression fit to reduce muscle fatigue. The Breath Thermo Short Sleeve Polo is then a winter-weight polo woven from Mizuno’s Breath Thermo yarn that allows golfers to really make the most of the midday winter sunshine.

The Breath Thermo 1/4 Zip top forms the perfect second layer, with its lightweight, soft-touch fabric featuring golf-specific stretch paneling to allow full freedom of movement in the golf swing.

The Windproof Jacket also features the same golf-specific stretch paneling and is another streamlined, ultralight outer layer designed to eliminate wind chill. It can be combined with Mizuno’s Breath Thermo under layers to keep the hardy winter golfer warm and free-moving in the coldest of golfing conditions, as can the high-stretch, mid-weight, wind-protecting Tech Shield Jacket. The Tech Shield Jacket is also versatile enough to be worn straight over a polo shirt should the temperature rise and fall over the course of 18 holes.

Move Tech is another key Mizuno fabric technology engineered to facilitate a free swing via key strategic stretch points, with the AW18 Move Tech range comprising three garments – jacket, gilet and trousers – with jacket and gilet also featuring Breath Thermo.

The ultra-warm, padded Move Tech Jacket and Gilet feature stretch panels to ensure freedom of movement, with the brand’s Tech Fill treatment helping to ensure the garments maintain their warmth-giving volume through wear and washing.

The warm, soft-touch Move Tech Trousers are perfect for cold, dry days on the course, with their vertical stretch panels allowing a full range of golfing movements in a modified, tailored fit.

Completing Mizuno’s AW18 apparel collection are the high-performance Nexlite Rain Jacket and Rain Pants, which offer the ultimate in wet-weather protection.

Both provide an incredible 20,000mm of waterproofing with 25,000g of breathability, impressive figures that allow them to be classified as “highly waterproof for heavy rain” while remaining soft to the touch and incredibly lightweight for this level of waterproofness. The Nexlite Rain Jacket seamlessly doubles up as a wind top, with its detachable sleeves making it even more versatile across the seasons. The trousers allow adjustable leg lengths of up to 4 inches in every waist size, and both jacket and trousers come with a handy pack-away pouch to minimise storage space.

Mizuno’s new AW18 apparel collection, available from September 2018, offers golfers all the colour, style and high-tech performance they could ever wish for thanks to Mizuno’s key fabric technologies of Breath Thermo, Tech Shield and Move Tech.
