Since it first opened, San Roque Golf & Country Club Club has been one of southern Spain’s most exclusive resorts, at the foothills of the Sierra Bermeja in the shadows of Valderrama Golf Club is considered one of Costa Del Sol‘s best rounds of golf. The resort has two golf courses the “Old Course” & “The New Course”, both are championship courses in length and have hosted the Spanish Open in recent years. The Clubhouse is a magnificent mansion, formerly the home of the Domecq sherry dynasty, the facilities are exceptional with multiple dining areas, locker room, driving range and putting and chipping greens and a golf academy.

The Old Course – Inaugurated in 1991 and designed by architect Dave Thomas, this 6494 meters and Par 72  course has hosted the Spanish Open and European Tour Q-school. Set on a very rolling landscape that allows for some beautiful views of the surrounding mountains as well as the Mediterranean Sea a few kilometers away, the fairways are wide and lined with mature trees with water hazards on many holes and the course is renowned for its large bunkers, the 18th is amongst the finest finishing holes in Europe. Seve Ballesteros redesigned the Old Course’s bunkers a few years back.

The New Course – In 2002 started the collaboration between Perry Dye and Seve Ballesteros to design this new course, and it was officially inaugurated in 2004. The idea was to create a course that is a challenge for scratch and low handicap golfers, but that is also possible for higher handicap players to enjoy, this 6626 metres (from the championship tees) and Par 72 course has several striking features including waving marram grasses and pot bunkers. Each hole has five different tee positions and fairways that are wider than those on the Old Course, these fairways were designed to reward clever tactics and skilful drive placement. It aims to complement the Old Course, while presenting a very different challenge.
