For a PGA Tour Trophy (shared from GolfPunk)
The 2019 PGA Tour promises to be one of the most exciting ones in recent history. With players like Tiger Woods, Jon Rahm and Justin Rose leading the way, the Tour is star-packed from top to bottom. But, besides the big names, there are also several players you should keep your eye one this year.
In this piece, we’ll do a different take on the subject, and instead of analysing the favourites, we’ll take a look at the 5 up-and-coming players on the Tour that could make the headlines in 2019.
The Importance of Knowing the Schedule:
The PGA tour schedule has been up for a couple of months on the official PGA Tour website, where you can check the full rundown of the 2019 PGA Tour events and dates. Keep in mind that there are some changes compared to the previous years. Some events have been pushed to later dates, with the 2018/2019 season FedExCup Playoffs closing in August. Knowing the exact dates of each course and location on the tour can help you keep track of the players more easily, as there are a total of 46 events throughout the year.
Betting on Your Favorite Player in the 2019 PGA Tour
Betting on the 2019 PGA Tour events and players is becoming an increasingly popular trend. Many fans of the sport like to spice up their experience by placing wagers on their favourites. The PGA Tour has recently offered support for new sports betting legislation, which will allow further popularisation of the sport. This is certainly good news for all golf betting enthusiasts.
Although we won’t focus on the special markets and offers, some sites offer comprehensive lists with bonuses for free bets and sportsbook reviews, where you can find everything golf betting related and directly compare offers to make sure you get the best deal.
5 Players to watch Closely in the 2019 PGA Tour
Out of all of the players taking part in this years’ Tour, narrowing down the top five was a challenging task. But here our top choices.
Denny McCarthy
Denny McCarthy, age 25, has only turned professional in 2015, but even in a short period, he has managed to make a name for himself and solidify his position in the big league. McCarthy is one of the most promising golfers on the PGA Tour and has done a fantastic job playing against the big names. Before joining the PGA tour, he competed and won the Web.com Tour.
Sung-Jae Im
Sung-Jae Im is one of the youngest players on the Tour, with only 20 years of age. Although Sung-Jae does attract big media hype around his performances, it’s still safe to say that he is fairly underrated, especially if you keep in mind his dominant performances in the Web.com Tour just a year before. Sung-Jae is looking for his big break and this year’s Tour might just be it.
Francesco Molinari
In a sport increasingly dominated by young players, the 36-year old Italian is a true underdog story. After 120 PGA Tours without a single win, Molinari managed to capture two Tour wins in 2018. He participated as a member of team Europe and help them win at Le Golf National, and will surely be looking to extend this fantastic year into 2019 as well.
Sam Burns
Sam Burns is going through his rookie season in the PGA Tour, but don’t underestimate this 22-year old. Burns has plenty of experience playing against the best in the world, as he even managed to beat Tiger Woods in the 2018 Honda Classic.
Phil Mickelson
Last, but definitely not least, the savvy veteran Phil Mickelson should look to make the best of this year. The 43-time Tour winner still has some gas in the tank, and although he’ll probably play a limited selection of events on the Tour, he is an experienced player who will know to seize an opportunity if it arises.
Big Changes for the 2019 Tour
The PGA Tour Commissioner announced a new schedule mid-2018, which introduced several additions and changes to the existing formula. These changes come mostly in the form of rescheduled event times, as some of the events, including the playoffs, will be shorter. Additionally, several events, including the D.C. one, have been removed from the Tour and replaced with new venues. All of this is important to be aware of if you plan on regularly following the 2019 Tour.
