There are only a few golf courses in Germany that served as venue for a professional tournament of the PGA European Tour. The Beckenbauer Golf Course in Penning is one of the exclusive venues meeting the high quality standards.
The 18-hole course designed by world-class golfer Bernhard Langer served as venue for the Porsche European Open, one of Europe’s most prestigious professional tournaments, in 2015 and 2016. In 2017, the Beckenbauer Golf Course was also the setting for the Paul Lawrie Matchplay, and from 2013 to 2015 it hosted the Challenge Tour of the European Tour for three consecutive years. On all occasions, Europe’s top golf players acknowledged that the championship course is a demanding test at an international level that provides immense challenges for the players and is extraordinarily well maintained.

The 18-hole par 72 course named after the king of football, Franz Beckenbauer, is located in the immediate proximity of the Porsche Golf Course, measures 6,500 metres from the champion tee, and is the sportive highlight of the golf resort. Planned right from the start to be suitable for major championship events, it is considered to be the most difficult course of the golf resort. The 18 holes of the 80 hectare course wind through the meadow landscape of the small river Rott in two varied 9-hole loops.
The level and easily accessible course is highly demanding and characterised by an array of water hazards. These appear in the form of streams, ditches, flood channels or ponds and require a high level of precision from the players, both for drives and approach shots. 13 of the 18 holes are protected by water, with holes 9 and 18 being especially spectacular, as both greens are demarcated by stone walls and a large pond, bestowing them an island character.

Up to 200 metre long par 3 holes, strategically placed bunker tongues, as well as interesting doglegs give the Beckenbauer Golf Course its sporty character. A real hallmark of the championship course is its excellent condition: a two-row sprinkler system guarantees world-class golf enjoyment on hand-mown fairways and greens, even in midsummer.
