The Castro Marim Golfe Course is located in the East Algarve, Portugal, in a beautiful and traditional town with a historic castle (10th century) and ancient Fort (Sao Sebastiao) right on the border between Portugal and Spain. The short drives from Faro and Seville Airports along connecting motorways mean that Castro Marim is in reach of two enjoyable cultures. Views and scenery are amongst the best available of any Algarve golf course.
Designed by English golf architect Terry Murray, the golf course has 27 excellent holes including the Grouse Course, The Atlantic Course and Guadiana Course; an excellent combination of two rounds of 18 holes can be played from these three courses. Wonderful, elevated greens, sloping fairways, dramatic elevation, undulating greens and several water features have been meticulously designed to enable all levels of golfer to play and present a challenge to experts too.
The challenging aspects of the course demand accurate play and astute club choice but by the end of the game what remains is a fantastic golf experience that will make your day. According to the book “1001 Golf holes you must play before you die” written by Jeff Barr, Castro Marim belongs to one of the world’s best golf courses. “The hole that must be played” is the 4th hole of the Guadiana Course – a challenging par 5 hole. An interesting feature of this course is the irrigation system. The entire course is irrigated by means of an underground watering system. This enables golfers to play at times when use of conventional aerial sprinklers would normally be unavoidable.
