Vale da Pinta Golf Course, Portugal

Situated near Carvoeiro in an old olive grove, Vale da Pinta is a championship course that is, nonetheless, adaptable to any kind of game , 8 times consecutive host of the European Seniors Tour Qualifying final this course is rightly respected not just for its playability and challenging layout but for outstanding levels of beauty and enjoyment. Designed by the North American Ronald Fream, currently one of the most respected architects, whose style involves the preservation of nature in his projects. Inaugurated in 1992 Vale de Pinta has earned its place as one of the best designed courses in Europe.

The rolling terrain is dotted with carob, fig and almond trees. One very special feature is an olive tree that is reputed to be more than 1200 years old. Pinta has a well deserved reputation for the outstanding level of maintenance. The challenges posed by the course are adaptable to differing levels of skill. This is achieved by the presence of five sets of tees for each of its holes. The dog leg trajectory for the par 4 and par 5 holes highlight the need for skill in driving.

Special holes are the par-3 11th, 179 metres in length, played from an elevated tee with an enormous bunker protecting the green. A little further on is the 14th, a 541 metres long par 5, winding gently through a valley with a set of fairway bunkers and about 100 metres short of the green is the oldest olive-tree in the course.

Vale da Pinta was recently awarded the innovative TUV Eco-Golf Certificate. This certificate is awarded by TUV Rheinland Portugal in recognition of an environmental approach to maintenance. Reductions in water consumption, in energy costs and in residues were all achieved at Vale da Pinta.
