Pebble Beach has to be the true home of American golf. The Californian course opened in1919 , was designed by two amateur golfers it offers a challenge and setting for golfers that is unique and this week plays host to the 2010 US Open. Previous winners of the Us open on this course are the greats Jack Nicklaus,Tom Watson,Tom Kite and Tiger Woods. The resort known as Pebble beach links is now owned by a consortium of business men that includes Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood and golf great Arnold Palmer who was instrumental in enhancing the course to take it into the modern era.The course now measures 7040 yards par 71 and most notorious stretch of holes is No. 8 through No. 10, which hug the cliffs along the Pacific coastline.Three holes have been lengthened substantially. A new tee on No. 9 is 39 yards farther back, now playing 505 yards. The 10th hole has a new tee 49 yards farther back and now is 495 yards. The 13th hole has a tee 39 yards back and now measures 445 yards. The rough has been mowed down the right side of the sixth fairway along the cliffs, and the fairway has been brought in 25 yards from the left on the eighth hole.

Last time Pebble Beach staged the Us Open we witnessed the most dominant victory in major championship history, Tiger Woods led wire-to-wire to win by 15 shots, a record for any major, and tied the U.S. Open record at 272. He did not make worse than par over the final 26 holes and even with his current issues he will go into the event as favorite.
