The White Witch golf course, probably the most famous tract on the island, is also a part of the historic, 5000-acre Rose Hall Plantation. One of the most scenic golf courses in Jamaica, if the not the entire West Indies, the White Witch golf course is a pleasure to play, even if you don’t score well. On 16 of its 18 holes, you’ll be wowed by the stunning panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea.

The golf course, part of The Ritz-Carlton Golf & Spa Resort, winds its way around more than 600 acres of lush, tropical greenery and gently rolling landscape. It’s a long, and extremely tough golf course designed by that inimitable team of golf course architects, Robert von Hagge and Rick Baril, not necessarily for the nature of the course itself, but also for Annie May Palmer, the owner of the plantation in the 1820’s.

Legend has it that the plantation’s beautiful but wicked 19th century plantation mistress, Annie May Palmer was a master of voodoo and perhaps murdered her three husbands; she herself was murdered in her bed by a slave, her lover, Legend also says that Annie’s ghost still haunts the estate, creating an alluring mystique that has fascinated island natives and visitors for generations.

The par-71, 6,859-yard golf course is differentiated by its mountainous landscape, cool trade winds, colourful plant life and impressive ocean views.  The elevation changes are interesting, especially if you are used to playing on flat courses. From mountaintop to ravine you will face a new challenge on every tee.

Landing areas are tight, fairways are narrow, bunkers are strategically placed to gather in every wayward ball, greens are fast, undulating and sometimes tough to read; then there’s the breeze to contend with as 16 of the 18 holes overlook the ocean, you can bet the breeze will be a factor. Even the views, they’ll take your breath away, will play their part. Overall, though, if you play the White Witch, no matter what you score, you’ll leave memories you’ll never forget; she’s a great lady and she demands respect.
