Minto Golf Club is laid out through the aged groves of a woodland estate established many years ago. It’s an excellent parkland course with fine arboreal specimens tucked away behind the village of Denholm and overlooked by the imposing Rubers Law.
The course plays over ambling, gentle slopes that are tree-lined for the first ten holes before opening out into wider plains at the 11th. The 4th is a difficult par three playing across the top of the course and onto level ground. Here, the course opens out and the main challenge is hitting the ball, should it be blowing, into a westerly wind.
Despite being built on the side of a hill, there are no steep climbs although the view from the 12th tee, on a hole they call Everest, can give rise to palpitations.
