Pierre Van Achterbergh was born in Johannesburg during the days of apartheid. An unhappy childhood afforded little stability in life and he mostly drifted in the wind. Following the loss of a successful restaurant business on account of an out of control gambling addiction, a series of crazy twists and turns led him from South Africa to discover the world of professional golf.
Pierre thrived within this world, caddying for leading golfers across the PGA, European, Sunshine and Asian Tours. As a professional golf caddie living a jet set life he hit the big time on the European Golf Tour, becoming one of the best caddies in the world. Unable to escape his gambling demons, life once again came crashing down around him, bringing a return to his home country but in a homeless position.
Today Pierre remains homeless and unable to find employment. Above all else, Pierre Van Achterbergh has earned his stripes and at heart remains a PGA and European Tour, multi-event winning, professional caddie.
