The current Koninklijke Haagsche was designed in 1938, by the famous golf course architects Harry Colt and C.H. Alison. Although Alison was responsible for most of the design, as evidenced by the slightly larger bunkers and more extreme nature, the course is still counted as one of the finest Colt designed courses in Europe.
The course was laid by Copijn of Groenekan.”
The design of the golf course makes use of the naturally undulating dune landscape. Each hole offers a completely different view and a new and surprising challenge. Teeing off on the 18th gives the golfer a wonderful view of the clubhouse and terrace.
The Haagsche is ‘committed to green’, meaning that we respect nature and the golf course environment. The course is maintained in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner. Through checks, analysis, formulating objectives and continual evaluation, the Haagsche optimizes its management of the natural environment.
The Haagsche is fortunate to host a wealth of varied flora and fauna. As such, we take great care to maintain and improve our highly valued natural environment. Among other ways, by using sheep and cattle to control the growth of the course naturally. Bird counts are organized regularly and we also monitor mushrooms, toadstools, butterflies and insects. The number of deer is also monitored carefully. The Haagsche tries as much as possible to adhere to the requirements of the Meijendel Nature (a Natura 2000 area).
