Costa Ballena Golf is situated between the towns of Sanlucar and Puerto de Santa Maria, tucked away by the beach and easily accessed from Jerez de la Frontera and Cadiz, Spain. Jose Maria Olazabal was in charge of the design of this versatile course where players of all levels can play an excellent round of golf, enjoying the stunning views over the Atlantic .
Laid out on relatively flat land this José Olazabal design has made each loop of nine quite different and distinctive. It is an open and flat course that consists of 27 holes, 18 of which are of championship standard. Some of the holes run alongside the Atlantic giving you the feeling of links golf, whilst the others come inland and are parkland combining a few lakes and strategic bunkers.
In addition, there is a nine hole par 3 practice course, a massive practice driving range (over 300 yards wide that can accommodate 120 people at once) plus other areas for chipping and putting practice.
It is a good test of golf and ideal for all handicappers and the beauty of the surroundings makes Costa Ballena a worthwhile course to play. Ignacio Garrido is the club’s touring pro and considers this one of his favorite courses to practice on.
