Nike Golf has officially joined the alt-golf shoe party with the announcement of the Lunar Swingtip, a shoe that pays homage to the classic wingtip design of yesterday with nod to the skateboard / surf community.
Nike Golf designers enlisted the help of company affiliate Hurley on the design while also leveraging insights from products in the Nike Skateboarding shoe lineup. The result is a shoe that is said to provide stabiltiy and comfort both on and off the course.
“Nike Action Sports has a lot of skate and surf athletes who love golf and are low-handicap players,” said Lee Walker. “When they play, they want to look the part – to wear the ‘uniform’ of golf. But at the same time they, better than most, can appreciate the stability afforded by a low-profile cupsole construction given the performance demands of their chosen sports. Balance and stability are critical in board sports just as they are in golf.”
Leather ($119.99) and suede ($109.99) versions of the Lunar Swingtip will be available July 1, with a canvas version ($99.99) to follow January 1, 2013.
Let CNG know what you think… is Nike’s response to the alt-golf shoe market going to be a hit, or are they too late to the party for those of you who have become loyalists to the likes of Kikkor Golf?
