Situated in the heart of Vilamoura a mere 20-minute drive from Faro airport, this Frank Pennink designed parkland style layout is one of the oldest in the Algarve and renowned all over the golfing world.
Vilamoura Old Course was inaugurated in 1969. It is laid over and around gentle sloping hills with tree lined fairway sit meanders throughout impressive pine trees — the principal hazard – over gently undulating natural terrain, and poses quite a stern test. Host to the Portuguese Open (1970, 1979,) a golfer playing well will find it delightful. The course was completely renovated and modernised by Martin Hawtree in 1996 although no major changes were made to the magnificent layout, the Vilamoura Old Course often described as the Grande Dame of Algarve courses.
