Originally designed by Donald Harradine in 1962, Robert Trent Jones renovated the golf course in 1979 for the 27th World Cup Series. Glyfada Golf Club is tight and the abundance of trees makes it particularly challenging. It is set upon rolling hills, causing tricky uphill and downhill lies.
Wedged between the coast and the mountains, this 18-hole golf course, Par 72 championship course is a green oasis of rolling hills, landscaped with mature trees and shrubbery. Golfers can enjoy the view of the seaside while enjoying an interesting game of golf. Glyfada was for many years the undisputed premier golf course in Greece and played proud host to the 1979 World Cup of Golf, which American pairing of Hale Irwin and John Mahaffey won by five shots from runners-up Scotland.
Glyfada is defined by the many umbrella pines that line the fairways and by the noise from nearby Athens airport. However, if you are looking for a challenging course while staying in the ancient city, the 6,336-yard Glyfada will tick the box; with tight doglegged holes, which encourage accuracy rather than length, and slick greens.
It’s no secret that playing golf has been a fun and relaxing activity especially in one of the golf clubs in Athens. Just imagine yourself playing in a vast, evergreen lush mountain-scape with splendid sceneries.
