Karl Elsener opened a cutlery workshop to deliver a soldier knife to the Swiss army in 1884 and had a revolutionary idea in mind. He was looking for a compact studry knife, which offered many functions combined in a single tool. What he invented has long become a legend; the Original Swiss Army Knife.
Over the years, both customers and technology have changed. The Swiss army knife has responded to these requirements but remained an essential tool. As times change, so does direction and Victorinox have since moved into the world of fashion for both males and females.
Protect – Contour – Articulate – Innovate
Victorinox Artistic Director Christopher Raeburn used these values as the core of the Spring/Summer 2014 season with the overarching theme of “Futureproof Light”.
Christopher Raeburn studeied at the Royal Colege of Art and launched his own label in 2008. in 2010, Raeburn was approached by Victorinox to create a mens and womens fashion capsule and sourced the fabrics for the collection from Switzerland, the birth place of Karl Elsener, founder of the brand.
Fresh and innovative fabrics combine to form a series of lightweight products perfect for layering. Inspired by the iconic Swiss Army Knife, the collection balances functional and technical design with exceptional attention to detail.
Protect – The Protect capsule continues to be the pinnacle centerpiece of the Victorinox assortment. This season the concept is exemplified in key garments as well as infused throughout the general collection. All pieces in the Protect capsule are self-packable and can easily transform into a small packed bag that includes a hanging loop for travel convenience.
Contour – The collection highlights clean lines and silhouettes. The use of butterfly lining in the Voyager Blazer allows the fabric to contour the body and is available in a quick dry cotton nylon or linen cotton fabric. A classic oxford is updated in a tech version with stretch cotton employed at key points on the garment for ultimate ease of movement.
Articulate – Details continue to play a critical role on key garments. The use of radial armholes on select outerwear pieces allows the wearer a full range of motion. Reflective taping placed at seams on the back highlights the outerwear silhouettes, while yarn-dyed stripes on jersey polos update a classic piece with modern details.
Innovate – Innovations in fabrications, patterns and color are evident throughout. New developments in fabrics – from spring twill and quick dry cotton twill – are used in the collection as well as a truly innovative ‘futureyarn’ that creates a soft and supple feel for the wearer in lightweight spring sweaters. Patterns range from clean summer stripes on T-shirts and plaids on woven shirts. A deconstructed camo print composed of the iconic Original Swiss Army Knife is featured on knits and polos.
The fresh color palette for the season features bright tones in Ember Red and Filament Green anchored in Iron Gray and Navy. Washed shades of Seaside Blue, Maritime Blue and Lighthouse Red round out the hues of the collection.
