Kilspindie was founded in 1867 and is the 35th oldest golf club in the world. Situated on the southern shores of the Firth of Forth between Aberlady Bay and Gosford Bay, Kilspindie has illustrious neighbors like Gullane, Muirfield, North Berwick and Dunbar. A short 5480 yard par 69 course, Kilspindie is not to be taken too lightly – it is a worthy neighbor to all of them and definitely to be included in a golfing tour of the region. Step back in time and enjoy a game on a traditional links course at Kilspindie. It is a classic traditional Scottish Links Course that can be enjoyed by all levels of players.
The scenic course borders the Aberlady Bay nature reserve and offers spectacular views of the Forth of Forth. You can see the Firth Bridges, Pentland Hills, Edinburgh Castle and Arthur’s Seat as well as the Fife coastline and Gullane Hill from the course. The course in parts runs along the sea and the wind off the coast is always a factor to be considered while playing here.
This course is short but basically quite tight with a number of pot bunkers. Its narrow undulating fairways and strategic bunkering make this old fashioned gem a course to be reckoned with. The southwesterly wind makes play on the second, third and fourth holes quite a challenge. The eighth hole is a classic par three overlooking Gosford Bay. It demands a perfect tee shot that carries over the beach in the ever present wind or many a golf ball ends in a watery grave from here.
The par 34 home stretch is even shorter than the first nine but equally enjoyable. The 15th hole poses quite a challenge at par four. The wind makes a game at Kilspindie different very time you play here. The friendly members and excellent food at the club house are other factors that bring visitors back time and again to this hidden gem of Scotland that lies at the end of a private access road from Aberlady.
