KJUS brand ambassador, Max Kieffer has been showing top form recently, securing three top ten finishes in his last five tournaments, including a tie for third in the Nordea Masters. With a promising week ahead for Kieffer at the BMW International Open at home in Munich, we at Trendy Golf wanted to find out just how much of his performance on course is owed to his choice in clothing…

When it comes to your clothing, how important do you find performance when you’re out on the course?

Performance is key on the golf course. It is essential to have the right piece for every kind of weather condition: rain, wind, sun, heat, cold. At the same time, you need the feeling that you can swing the club without the slightest interference. Then you need breathable, silent and lightweight materials, wind- and waterproof fabrics – and often a combination of everything.

How does having the right clothing make a difference when you’re playing competitively?

When the apparel fits perfectly, you feel comfortable and are enabled to play your best.

Apart from an umbrella (!) what is the most important thing you have to protect you against the elements?

My KJUS rain outfit! The Pro 3L II-range is the latest in weather protection: waterproof, stretchy, breathable and with a fantastic fit. When I’m wearing the jacket and pants, rain doesn’t get in my way anymore.

Brands are starting to recognise the importance of providing apparel which not only looks good but which also performs. There are so many technologies out there at the moment, what is KJUS doing that’s different?

They simply know what they do. The people working at KJUS and developing the products are golfers themselves. Furthermore, they have been leading innovators in the ski-wear industry and have a broad experience regarding the invention of exclusive fabrics, the selection of the best membranes or how to achieve a high level of breathability. KJUS apparel has it all: functions to support the game and a classy, yet contemporary look.

Performance on the course is the main focus in the development of KJUS garments, all of which are designed to enable sports people to fully focus on the experience. As a tour player and brand ambassador, are you involved in the product development and how important is it to you to help push those boundaries in technology and performance?

I feel like part of the KJUS team and my main contribution to the development is my input as a pro golfer. From experience, I know what it needs and what works on the golf course. Also, I regularly give my feedback. I test the products under all conditions and then let the product guys know about my experiences. This often happens at prototype status and some of my feedback is then built right into the upcoming collection. I think it’s great to be part of a process that lifts golf-wear to the next level and to be right where the innovation happens. I’m happy that I always wear the absolute latest in golf-apparel.

The current range is full of vibrant colours which are clean and simple, do you have any favourite pieces?

My green Iluma pants! I truly love them. They are lightweight, allow for every movement and a special treatment makes them water- and dirt-repellent. Also the polo range is really great. There is a polo for any occasion and condition. And as you said: The variety doesn’t end with the functions – each polo comes in expressive colours to choose from.

KJUS is really starting to take off in the UK – why do you think that is?

It is simply great clothing that fits perfectly, looks differently and performs in every situation. Especially in the UK, where you have various weather and sometimes almost all seasons in one day, KJUS has something for any situation. Be it super packable windbreakers or light and stretchy raingear.

You must be used to a bit of cold weather in Germany – How important is layering to you?

Layering is important to feel comfortable in every situation and at every temperature. It gives you the opportunity to adjust and always play in the right clothes.

How would you describe your style?

Sporty, classy, casual and always with a modern twist.

Apart from Golf are you into any other sports? KJUS started out as a ski brand, are you any good at skiing?

It’s probably the only sport except golf where I am pretty good at!! I used to ski competitively as a kid.

What do you think of KJUS’s Active collection? Do you have any favourite pieces?

I’m a big fan of the lightweight down jackets. They give you a really masculine look and work either worn as a single piece or as an insulation under a shell jacket. The latter are also fantastic, e.g. the Credo Jacket looks great on the streets of any capital and is fully waterproof and breathable at the same time. There are also some pretty cool shirts in the collection.

You haven’t missed the cut yet, are you happy with your season so far?

Yes. My game is very consistent this year and that is really what you want in golf: consistency. I was part of the final group twice this year and that is really what you play for, to get in the competition to win golf tournaments. Even though I couldn’t win these days I will benefit a lot from these experiences in the future.
